Challenge
The Social, Life Cycle and Community Sustainability area of the Barcelona Provincial Council requests the development of a mental health diagnosis for Santa Perpètua de Mogoda. This diagnosis is based on a broad approach to mental health that, following the perspective proposed by the WHO, conceives it as a continuum that goes from emotional well-being to severe mental disorders. This diagnosis must allow the identification of the challenges to be addressed at a local level and in coordination with the different community agents in the municipality.
Solution
To develop the Diagnosis, 5 phases of work have been carried out, which have been developed over 7 months:
- Phase 1. The first phase has consisted of the documentary analysis of the data available in reports, reports and other existing documents.
- Phase 2. The second phase has aimed at developing a map of mental health resources that provide coverage to the citizens of Santa Perpètua de Mogoda.
- Phase 3. The third phase consisted of conducting interviews and focus groups with the City Council’s technical staff, key agents knowledgeable about the municipality and different population groups. This phase allowed information to be extracted on the social determinants of mental health.
- Phase 4. The fourth phase consisted of analyzing the data obtained and writing the report.
- Phase 5. The last phase involved conducting a SWOT analysis aimed at identifying, on the one hand, the weaknesses and strengths of the municipality in relation to mental health and emotional well-being and, on the other, the possible opportunities and threats.
